In the streets of Zografou a crowd, for the funeral of the General George Victor Papagiannopoulos, the brigadier of the National Hero of 1821 Theodorakis Papagiannopoulos - Deligiannis - Litina and descendant of Prince Byzantium Lucas Litina.

A crowd of people came to the parish church of St. George Zografou and flooded the courtyard and the adjoining square, forming on Tuesday, January 9, queues on the streets around the church of Agios Georgios Zografos in order to watch the funeral of the Infantry Sub-Officer George of Viktoria Papayannopoulos, who died on January 7, at Zografou, at the age of 92.
The 40-day memorial will take place on February 10, Saturday, at 10:00 am, at the Holy Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Kesariani, Athens (opposite the Kaisariani cemetery, and behind the University of Theological School Athens). The funeral was done by the Metropolitan of Patras, Messrs. Chrysostomos, Family Spirit. The funeral was attended by the military leadership of the country, the elite of the Scientific, Spiritual and Artistic Space, presidents of Associations and Associations, politicians and numerous simple family friends of the family. The emblematic reasons given by the Eminence Messrs. Chrysostomos, the representative of the Army General Staff, as well as the son of Dr. Victor Papagiannopoulos moved the people, and they are posted on the web at general.forevermissed.com. After the exile in the parish church of St. George Zografou, the funeral procession began with the escort of the band, which ended in the cemetery of the Municipality of Zografou, where the burial took place, in the ancient Greek-style marble sculptured family tomb. & Nbsp; Dr. Victor G. Papagiannopoulos, son of the deceased, told us that "my father in his career was honest, incorruptible," clean "and" glamorous ". It was purely military, without political aspirations and party shades. He served our country properly and made the right use of the power that the Greek State trusted him, in favor of Greece and our fellow citizens, and not for his own sake. That is why he was and is so dear to society and is an example to be imitated. He received the surname Papagiannopoulos and handed it to me unconsciously and honored, adding to him additional gifts and virtues. The researcher of the Hellenic National Research Foundation, Eftyhia Liatas, mentions in her book "The Family of Deligiannis" (published by the Society of Friends of the People, Historical Archives, Athens 1992) that the surname Papagiannopoulos was used by the family when, in 1565 AD . Ioannis Litinas in Lagadia, Arkadia, was ordained a priest. John Litina was a descendant of Peter Litina from Thessaloniki, who in turn was a descendant of the Byzantine prince Luke Litina according to the chrysobulos of 1181 AD, the emperor Alexios II of Komnenos, which is confirmed by historical and archeological findings. The polite birth of the family has also been confirmed by the historian Pukeville, the counselor of Grand Napoleon. Family coats of arms are kept at the Pad Ova University of Italy and the University Museum of Heraklion, Crete. Members of the Papagiannopoulos family in Lagadia received the nickname Deligiannis during the Venetian domination, and usually the Greek people are known by this nickname, rather than the pseudonym Papagiannopoulos or the real adjective of Litina. According to the genealogical tree drafted by the National Hellenic Research Foundation, Lieutenant General George V. Papagiannopoulos is the Trios of Theodorakis Papagiannopoulos - Deligiannis, the last Moraianian of the Peloponnese, the hero of the Greek Revolution of 1821, honored as National Class A hero. The family had put all their fortune in favor of the liberation struggle, for no consideration, and many of its members were sacrificed for the Freedom of the Nation. More information on family history can be found in Dr. Victor G. Papagiannopoulos "The history of the family" Papagiannopoulos - Deligiannis - Litina - Litinus - Litinus - Latinus "with the origins of the ancient kings Latino and Pelasgo" (Vipapharm, 2014 ISBN 978-618-80049-8-6) https : //books.google.com/books? isbn = 6188149525, as well as in the book of Liata Eftichia, "Archives of the Family of Deligiannis" (published by the Society of Friends of the People, Historical Archives, Athens, 1992).

A native speech by George of Victor Papagiannopoulos, major General spoken by his son.

My beloved father, I have never been to this day, thought that I would have lost you and would be in the present position to speak to you the epic tale. In my eyes you did not grow old and time did not pay you, with my own eyes I always saw you young.
I feel the need to thank you publicly for what you gave me, and especially for giving me the surname Papagiannopoulos, which has a heavy and honored story. You received it and handed it over to me insolently and honored, adding to you additional gifts and virtues. The surname Papagiannopoulos was used by our family when, in 1565 AD. Ioannis Litinas in Lagadia, Arcadia, was ordained a priest. John Litina was the descendant of Peter Litina from Thessaloniki, who in turn was the descendant of Luke Litina who in 1181 AD received with golden coin the 1/12 of Crete as a feud by the emperor Alexios II Komnenos and the which refers to the history and archaeological finds as the prince of Byzantium. Members of the Papagiannopoulos family in Lagadia received the nickname Deligiannis and usually the Greek people are known with this nickname. According to the genealogical tree produced by the National Research Foundation, you are the trios of Theodorakis Papagiannopoulos - Deligiannis, the last Moraigianni of the Peloponnese, who is honored as National Class A hero.
You have never exploited your gentle ancestry, you did not show it, nor did you take pride in it. You walked through your life as a simple Greek citizen. Even the fact that your father was a Ph.D. in law school at the University of Athens in 1896 AD. you did not reveal it to me until I decided to sort out the documents and the material of our libraries six years ago and found myself in front of our family tree that Mrs. Eftychiia Liata had written at the National Research Foundation and the multitude of papers that I was given members of the Greater Lithina family with the family coat-of-arms kept in Museums of Greece and Italy. I found myself in reports that Pukeville did in his work about the kindness of our family. You as a humble and simple man have never used your Kindness and moved humbly into your life by honoring our name more. As an officer of the Greek army, you fought in gang warfare defending the legitimate government of Greece and throughout your life you served Greece with self-denial and honesty. I emphasize the word honesty because you served in key positions of the Ministry of National Defense and not only did not misuse money, but you tried to save money in favor of the Greek State, reducing unnecessary expenses. From the positions you served throughout your career, you've been trying to help those in need and right and without ever accepting gifts. I am referring to what I heard from third people, because you never told me the good things you did and you never prided yourself on what you offered to others. When you served as a commander in Northern Greece, a teacher who served as a reserve officer and who was relatively recent with a wasteful woman, he picked up wealthy household goods and fell out financially. Then his alleged friends and fellow officers of jealousy and envy came to you and instigated him and asked for the army to be expelled by an army officer because he was shaming the House because his creditors were asking for their money and had come to beat him and send him injured in the hospital. So seeing this man at the edge of the cliff, you did not push him to fall but you pulled him back because of his shame for the financial impasse and the dissolution of his family he had decided to commit suicide. You took the initiative to contact the creditors (shopkeepers) to agree with them to accept the return of their household and to clear the debts. He also took care of the officer's beating to be recorded as an accident. With your moves, you have given this man the opportunity to rebuild and save himself and his family.
You did not do rushes, even if you were called by famous people and personalities from the spiritual and artistic space. For example, when you asked a famous actor to move her boyfriend from the border area to Athens you did not even if the pressures she felt were unbearable, and you told my mother "how to move my actor's friend to Athens and get the child of any mother to send her to the frontier area in the place of her actor's friend? It is not fair. Where it happened to serve everyone, there to serve. "But I was very good-hearted and when you saw injustice you were trying to correct. Many Greeks who were classified as leftists because a villain of their envy and vileness denounced their village guard that he had seen their grandfather or grandfather read a leftist newspaper, declassifying them without any reward. You gave them the opportunity to find work and re-enter society.
Another example I would like to mention is that when you learned that adopted boys cannot serve in the Army with the benefits of family protectors, you took the initiative to propose a change of law that the then minister had taken care to carry out.
I have always admitted to your office all citizens who have been asking for their hearings and trying to solve their problems in the legal framework of your jurisdiction.
You have not had selfishness and the door of our house has always been open to all those who were asking for your help that you provided selflessly to the point where my mother was tired of being over-burdened and complained. You never said the time is inappropriate when you knock on the door or you call me and I rest, instead you were always accessible and acted quickly in all your work. You may have been shouting several times and striding and feeling terrible and terrible, but you have not had any evil in your soul and the rigor was necessary to manage properly. The saying "dog barking not afraid" was fully applicable to your case.
In your career you were honest, patronizing, clean and shining. You were purely military without political ambitions and party shades. Your political beliefs have left you outside the workplace and outside the Army. Proof that you have been appointed Director General of the Latsoudis Office for seven years (as Mr Latsoudis wanted a person who was not responsible for his office director in order not to be in danger) and remained in this position as the Director of the Office of the Minister National Defense and after the 1974 transition, on a ministry of Mr. Averoff, who, even if he had the suspicion that I was involved with the seven-year political affairs, would have dismissed you directly, as he did with your colleagues. But Mr. Averoff kept you as Director of his own office for years. You told me that "only two entities ascend to the top of the mountain, the snails safely, swinging, galloping with their horns, and the eagles with their wings, but who run the risk of breaking their wings and injuring themselves deadly ". You had chosen and preferred to follow the way of the eagles and advised me to do the same in my life. That principle has given you a glimpse of it and I will try to follow it, following your example.
I will not mention your other actions and I will tire the attendees at this ceremony.
But I will mention that you were bitterly displeased when you were unfairly discharged without the necessary procedures of judgment being made annually in the Greek Army because you did not consent to signing in illegitimate documents to cover the then Minister under your signature.
You did not abuse public money, nor did you abuse the power you had from the post of General Manager of the Office of the Minister of National Defense, nor did you ruin the power. You got into life with a wife (literally the word) my mother with whom you were very dear, you were complementary and acting as one as an existence.
After your retirement, you worked with me and with the erection of our residence in the Municipality of Zografou, which you built with personal work (with your own hands) something that may have caused the jealousy and the envy of some people to whom you you have never held any evil, and you have been telling me until your death that I will not hold harm to those who are hostile to me, or to me. You followed the saying of the crucified "Father, let them be, that thou wilt know what thou art" (Luke 23:34). How can one now doubt that after such a career, that Christ will not already have you in his arms, which is of love.
Mocks of respect and love of others, and I think everyone will remember you with the best memories. Your true friends were with you all the time, and they will stay close to me, my husband and your grandson and after your sleep.
Rest in peace my Father
